I’m Terra Rathai, an artist and writer living in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Wildflower is a lifestyle blog I’ve been dreaming up for years. It’s about living the good life and being present to the beauty of this moment.
To me, the good life is simple but gorgeous, funky yet profound. I like bare feet and red lips, yoga and a cold IPA, black turtlenecks, and food so good it makes you “mmm” out loud. Nature is my soul and the source of so much of the wonder that fuels my art and my journey through life.
My career as an artist started naively at the start of 2010 with a commitment to a 365 project and a brand-new blog: avantgarden365. That project, the rigor of daily creativity, the written reflections and the tens of thousands of photos changed my life and shaped my artistic and spiritual practice of being present to beauty in everyday life.
Wildflower will still be about sharing the extraordinary beauty in everyday things but it will also travel, throw garden parties, go behind the scenes and provide a soundtrack to ease us down the road.
What are we waiting for? Let’s go…
wild prairie rose: the ‘official’ wildflower
The wildflower seen in our logo is a wild prairie rose.
It’s a Minnesota native that climbs and tumbles over other plants, old split-wood fences and fancy trellises with equally rustic grace.
This free spirit reminds me of the Grateful Dead song, Ramble On Rose:
Did you say your name was ramblin’ rose?
Ramble on baby, settle down easy,
Ramble on rose.
Of course the blog isn’t only about wildflowers (although there will be plenty of blooms in these pages). It’s more a celebration of the wildflower spirit. Wild, free, beautiful & strong. Deeply rooted but brave enough to send her seeds to the wind. Independent yet interconnected. Destined to BE.
never miss a beat: our first playlist
The inaugural Wildflower playlist features favorite songs about flowers, the experience of being alive in this wonderful world, and the importance of paying attention to it all. This line is one of my favorite lyrics from the list:
If ever I can’t see the magic around me,
please take my hands off my eyes.Cloud Cult (Craig Minowa), Through the Ages
