About Me
I’m Terra Rathai, an artist & writer living in Minneapolis, MN with my husband Brad, children Sawyer & Zola and very large mixed-breed dog, Rocco.
My work is about seeing beauty in everyday things. Increasingly it’s nature and gardens that fill my lens but I’m always open to seeing what’s there – even if it’s just a crack in the sidewalk.
I’m a self-taught photographer with a background in art history and english. I mention my studies partly because I always thought I’d be an academic and I truly love education. More importantly though, the time I spend studying visual art and language flavors everything I create and the way I see the world. It’s how I’m able to see art everywhere I look.
I love nature. It’s my soul and my church and my muse. I don’t know why I would ever resist the pull to embrace this earthly love (it is my name, after all) but as my fascination grows and the beauty of the world is both fragile and evermore profound, I surrender. I’m all in.
The other things that really get me are human creativity and kindness, the triumph of the human spirit, any action fueled by love. It makes sense to me to combine my own art and writing with my other loves: music, adventure, movement, food. It takes all the senses and sensibilities to be fully present in this big old wonderful world. My hope with the Wildflower Blog is to share all of this with you.
